Every person has a grandmother. Unfortunately the grandmother of The Drawing Room's producer and agent Jiek Weishut passed away years ago. Grandmother Mies Bloch was a talented artist, illustrator and painter without the use of fancy software. Part of her work she was known for were her cross stitch designs which were also published. With great pleasure we can announce now that you don't have to go to a museum to see her work. Oilily the world known Dutch brand for colourful clothing and necessities used Oma Mies her designs and made 10 bags and 4 purses. If you are in Slovakia please visit Bratislava during the Fest Anca International Animation Film Festival (1-3 July) and watch Things You'd Better Not Mix Up. If Bratislava is not your cup of tea you can watch the film in Italy during the Giffoni Film Festival (12-21 July), in South Korea during the Seoul International Cartoon & Animation Festival (20-24 July), in Croatia during the Supertoon International Animation Festival (31-4 August) or in Israel during the Jerusalem International Children's Film Festival (22-25 August). It gives us great pleasure to announce that The Drawing Room's very own Gustavo has been asked to work on the new film Damned Man a new Submarine BV production. The film is written by Gerry de Hoogh and will be directed by Mischa Kamp. Gustavo will be the storyboard artist on the project. After finishing the graphic novel 'Gagarin' and making storyboards and visuals for the known add agencies, this is a great new project to sink his teeth in. We wish the whole team good luck!! With great pleasure we can announce that we will be making one additional animated film for the visitors centre of the Peace Palace in The Hague. Just like the first four they will be directed and animated by our very own talents Gatze and Arjan. The films are commissioned by Christien Uringa of Bureau D'Arts. The five films will be explaining cases from the International Court of Justice and the Permanent Court of Arbitration. The visitors centre at the Peace Palace will open end of summer 2011. Things You'd Better Not Mix Up has won the IndieLisboa International Independent Film Festival 2011 Audience Award for best short film. Joost Lieuwma's comic short was the audience's darling film of this year's edition of IndieLIsboa. Director Joost Lieuwma and producer Jiek Weishut are of course in heaven again and feeling very fortunate. May 15.

Happy to tell you that The Drawing Room has just started the development of its first animated feature film with the help of the Dutch Film Fund and many others. Hieronymus Bosch - The Portrait of Death by Director and Writer Erik van Schaaik. Set in the 15th century, a puppet animation, love-thriller based on the life and style of the great Dutch artist. A major project and so enthusiastic!! April 12.

Here is an update from the festival front concerning the animated film Things You'd Better Not Mix Up by debut Director Joost Lieuwma.This week the film will be screened at Go Short Nijmegen in The Netherlands and at the same time at the Regenburg Short Film Week in Germany and at Athens Animfest in Greece. Next week Things will be screened in France at the Roanne Animation Short Film Festival and at CLAP 89, Festival International du Court Métrage. Beginning of May you will be able to also watch Things at the Internationales Trickfilm Festival Stuttgart in Germany, at Indie Lisboa in Portugal and at Curtocircuito in Spain. It gives us great pleasure to announce that The Drawing Room talent Gustavo finished the graphic novel he has been working on for so long. Written by Rob van Scheers and published by Lebowski Publishers it is the story of Yuri Gargarin. On April 12 it is precisely 50 years ago that this brave cosmonaut was shot into space. You might have read a preview in the Dutch magazine Elsevier but you should definitely get the graphic novel. Gustavo great work!! February 24.

The YOUNGBLOOD Award best-of-graduates Jury 2010 (Machteld Leij, Gé Huismans and Ruud Axe) chose Job Van der Molen and Daniel Maalman as overal best and were chosen from the best graduation artwork of all Dutch Art Academies in The Netherlands 2009-2010. Things You'd Better Not Mix Up has won the first KLIK! Amsterdam Audience Award. Joost Lieuwma's comic short was the audience's darling film of this year's edition of KLIK! It was a close call though, with Der Kleine und das Biest by Uwe Heidschoetter & Johannes Weiland from Germany as the second most valued by the audience and Madagascar, a journey diary by Bastien Dubois from France in third place. The Drawing Room is delighted to have Matty Jorissen and Wijnand Driessen on board. Experienced in animation and product design they make films for you and think a step ahead. After little more than half a year with a great crew and hard work we can proudly inform you that PECKER has its premiere on Saturday July 3. We were over the moon with this news and ran to the fridge (...again) to plop a bottle of champagne. We were even more delighted to hear that PECKER will be shown before one of the most famous animation features of the world. The one with the green ogre. Director Erik van Schaaik and animation producer Jiek Weishut went today to Nedcipro in Leiderdorp to see the newest production called PECKER for the first time on a big screen. Nedcipro is finalizing the film so that cinema chain Pathé will feature the film in 70 cinemas in The Netherlands. The film looks great and sounds beautiful!! Of course we hope you like it too. Early this morning while everyone was still asleep the new website went online of the ultra short film PECKER (PIK for the Dutchies). Director, writer and animator Erik van Schaaik worked the past months into the wee hours to make this gem happening. Together with producer: Jiek Weishut, animator: Patrick Raats, composer: Martin Fondse, clarinets / kalimba: Claudio Puntin, music recording and mix: Chris Weeda, foley and surround mix: Tape TV (Arno Peeters), lighting: Jelle Mulder, clean-up by our favorite intern: Peter Puntman and effect riggs: Adrian Walton Smith (Viz). We still need to do some colourgrading but we are almost there. Of course we will keep you posted where the film will be screened but check out this website made by Anita van Dalen. June 15.

Spring is coming in six days!! So we will be presenting you an animated short made by Marlieke Kasten. Marlieke has done a wonderful internship at The Drawing Room for these past few months. The stop motion animation she made is proof that she is on the right path of becoming a great animator. As part of her animation curriculum at the Utrecht School of Arts, she is now teaching animation at the Kilimanjaro Film Institute in Tanzania. We are proud to announce that the final year animation students of the Willem de Kooning Academy (WdKA) in Rotterdam will be producing, in collaboration with The Drawing Room, commercials and infomercials for the Mopti Foundation. The Mopti Foundation is commited to help reducing poverty in Mali, Africa. The Russian Tour with presentations and the Best of KLIK! Programme was a succes!! With an enthusiastic crowd of over 2100 visitors and counting, spread over seven cities. The Drawing Room is enthousiastic to announce that producer Jiek Weishut will be representing KLIK! Amsterdam Animation Festival in the following cities in Russia; Moscow, Voronezh, Rostov-na-Donu, Ekaterinburg and Chelyabinsk. In these cities special screenings will be held accompanied by presentations also done by Yvonne van Ulden. This will be the first time in 2010 that the Best of KLIK! is shown abroad. The Drawing Room is proud to announce that the animation film project 'Pik' was one of the four winners of the Ultra Short Competition created by the Dutch Film Fund and Pathé, the largest cinema chain in The Netherlands. 29 projects were pitched to the committee. The Drawing Room has been asked by Submarine to create a storyboard for the upcoming interactive and narrative experience called Energy Risk (working title). The game uses fictional characters, stock footage and Flash games combined with drama, suspense, and the intrigue of a Hollywood blockbuster. It raises awareness for the global issue - the end of oil - by reaching and engaging a new and larger audience that a documentary alone could not attract. After 6 months of hard work The Drawing Room can happily announce that the creation of the website for the Hersentumor.nl Foundation went live. The Drawing Room was selected from a pitch with six other agencies to create a functional, playful and informative website for children who have a brain tumor. Also giving their friends and families a place to get information about the procedures of being ill and the coping process. Showcased by more than half an hour of playful animations and educative content. This informal and educative website is a result from strong teamwork of animator Rikkert Nusselder and IT-Specialist Ward Klijzing who made this website an interactive success, also with the help of Kroese Interactive Media.
